Why is Russia still an enemy?

Why is Russia still an enemy?

Why is Russia still an enemy?

The public can watch the war in Ukraine on a daily basis, and get updates on Russia invading Europe even though it cannot complete its invasion of Ukraine.

The key question here from New America is "Why is Russia still considered an enemy?"

Russia has been a trading partner for decades, and the Cold War seems to be over. Both nations are consistently getting rid of their nuclear stockpiles.

Yet, Russia - or simply its leader - felt compelled to invade its neighbor to keep it from joining NATO, and the U.S cannot help with anything but money and a few weapons.

Russia has threatened to use nuclear weapons if the U.S. gets involved further than money.

So, why is that?

All the years since the Soviet Union disbanded have not done anything to make Russia a friend outside of Capitalism. Why is that?

Capitalism won the Cold War, and the U.S. powers Capitalism, yet in 2022 Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin, decided to invade a former member of the Soviet Union so Russia could expand its borders and reclaim its former Union member.

When the invasion began there were nearly 900 McDonald's across Russia. They all shut down and were replaced by Russian-themed restaurants.

So, what the hell happened? Why did America's leadership not intervene with Soviet leadership and talk them out of the invasion?
