In 1992, Texas billionaire Ross Perot ran for President as an independent, and was enough of a candidate he got invited to the Presidential debates with George Bush and Bill Clinton.
He won more than 19 percent of the popular vote, and even finished second in one state. And, he ran again in 1996, although no one really remembers that.
The lasting impact Perot had on the American political landscape was probably what he was campaigning against - the two-party system being bad for government.
Perot influenced much of America to recognize this, and yet he didn't actually accomplish anything - the two-party system has become more polarized than ever in the last two decades.
The big reason why Perot has had no lasting affect on America is that he ran as an independent. He ran as Ross Perot, not as the candidate supported by a political party.
Ross used his billions to power the campaign, and empowered small groups of voters to do great things across the country like get signatures that got him on the ballot in all 50 states. But, once the election came and went, so did all that work the volunteers put into the campaign. There wasn't a party left behind to challenge the two-party system.
The New America Party is set-up to become a third party for the long run due to one very simple reason - the streaming network.
The streaming network is a for-profit endeavor (for now), and is going to rely on the exploits of the party for content and subscription revenue.
So, without a party to cover, there's no need for a network. And, the party has its own network, so that's a great set-up for the future.
The work, the amazing work that's going to go into this campaign won't be lost to history. It'll be the start of a better history.
